Language is love. Finally realized this. I mean, I knew it before and I knew that I held an unhealthy amount of appreciation for it, but for a moment, I seemed to have forgotten the extent of it. A couple of days ago, a non-native friend of mine asked for help with her German presentation. Of course I helped her out, and when I left her apartment three hours later, I was smiling so madly that it almost scared me. I had so much fun discussing language and mistakes and cultural aspects in language and what-not. Unsurprisingly, this really helped me finally let go of my little dream of ever studying medicine. I still think it’s highly interesting and I wish I’d gotten the chance, but while medicine is of interest to me, it’s not my passion. That’s language.
When mentioning this to friends and family, I received a lot of “Well duh!”s, “Told ya so”s and “Well that’s what you’re good at!”s. I think that’s partly what made me cling to medicine as well. Being scared of reactions like that, I mean. Giving up on medicine felt too much like, yeah, giving up and admitting that there are things that I am not capable of doing. It’s not like I didn’t know this already, it’s just that I prefer to believe that I can do anything I put my mind on. I still firmly believe that I would have made a good doc, too – the question is though, would I have made a passionate doc? There’s no doubt in my mind that some day, I will be a very passionate interpreter. That’s okay.
So yeah *breathes* 深いwww
Apart from pondering my future, I’ve been working a lot. As usual. And I think it’s safe to say that after two weeks of being blonde, the lack of color pigments in my hair is directly proportional to the amount of guys hitting on me. One even went so far to outright tell me that guys just like blondes. I don’t get it. Maybe it’s connected to what seems to be thesis 2: The amount of color pigments in a girl’s hair must be directly related to her level of intelligence. Honestly. The amount of blonde jokes is astonishing and any mistake, no matter how small, gets me a figurative pat on the head and an indulging smile. Really guys? The same mistakes made with black hair made you laugh along with me, now they make you laugh at me. What’s up with that?
So, do guys like blondes because they consider us dumb and like boosting their own intelligence? Sounds likely.
On a different note, someone needs to kill the person who made me realize that performances by my local conservatory are both of very high quality and mostly entirely free of charge. That’s right, let’s kill Google. 万歳!!!
